Meet Lexi Bonilla:
Eating Disorder & Body Image Therapist in Madison, WI
I'm a social worker providing online therapy to folks in Wisconsin who may feel stuck in cycles of disordered eating, body shame, anxiety, and self-criticism—those who long for peace with food, their body, and themselves but don’t know where to start.

Working with me feels like coming home to yourself. In our sessions, you'll experience a warm, compassionate space where all parts of you are welcome—especially the ones that feel stuck, ashamed, or overwhelmed. I offer a steady, grounded presence as we gently explore your relationship with food, your body, and your inner world.

I believe healing thrives in curiosity, connection, and growth. Outside the therapy space, you’ll often find me watching the latest reality TV show, lifting weights, hiking new trails, cuddling with my cats, or discovering fresh flavors and live entertainment. These passions keep me grounded, playful, and open—qualities I bring into every session. Just like I value exploration in my own life, I’ll invite you to explore your inner world with the same curiosity, compassion, and care.
My Philosophy & Approach to Eating Disorder, Body Image, & Trauma Therapy
I truly value the therapeutic relationship and prioritize building strong rapport and trust. I believe that the foundation of successful therapy is a genuine connection where you feel heard, seen, and supported every step of the way.

My approach is client-centered, meaning I follow your lead during our sessions. You are the expert of your own life, and I’m here to help guide you as you uncover your own insights, strengths, and solutions. I lead with curiosity, asking questions and exploring the deeper layers of your experiences without rushing to solutions. Together, we’ll take the time to understand what’s going on for you, without pressure or expectations.

I am also committed to challenging systems of oppression and working towards a more inclusive, equitable world. I recognize that our identities, including race, gender, sexuality, and more, deeply influence our lives and experiences, and I’m here to support you in navigating these dynamics.

I am an anti-diet therapist and utilize approaches rooted in Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size (HAES). I'm not a "sit and nod" kind of therapist and I will gently challenge you when necessary — not to make you feel uncomfortable, but to help you gain new perspectives, break through barriers, and make lasting progress. I also firmly believe that therapy has room for laughter and lightness, and I'm a therapist who will definitely appreciate your jokes!

Ultimately, I strive to be a genuine, authentic presence for you. Therapy is a partnership, and I’m here to support you with openness, honesty, and a commitment to your healing and growth.

"Lexi helped me through some difficult life transitions and helped me make major strides in fixing my relationship with my body and food. I absolutely recommend Lexi if you are looking for a therapist who is compassionate and attentive to their client's needs."
-- Client in therapy for food & body image support

I’ve had the pleasure of supervising Lexi as she has developed her private practice, and I’ve consistently been impressed by her professionalism, compassion, and clinical insight. She brings eating disorder and body image expertise as well as a strong ethical foundation to her work with clients. It’s clear that she is deeply committed to creating a safe and supportive space for those she works with. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking a skilled ED therapist who is also warm and down to earth.

Lexi's Virtual Therapy Office: Meet my Co-Workers
Every great therapist needs a stellar team, and I’m lucky to have two incredible co-workers who are always by my side. Meet Cheddar and Swiss, my purr-fectly unqualified but highly effective support staff.

They’re always here to remind me (and you) that it’s important to take breaks, enjoy the little moments, and, of course, never underestimate the healing power of a good nap.

The official lap-warmer and professional napper. While not particularly skilled in active listening, Swiss is a master of comfort and emotional support.
The self-appointed office manager and window watcher. Cheddar specializes in “supervising” my work. Occasionally, he offers motivational meows when I'm in need of inspiration.
